So, don’t be flower illiterate. Know how to pick the perfect flowers for her.
1). Is her birthday coming up? Show her that you put some thought into her gift. Buy her flowers that represent her birth month. Just like birthstones, flowers can be chosen according to the months of the year.
- January—Carnation (Make sure you explain to her that this is her birth flower. Remember what we said about carnations earlier?)
- February—Violet
- March—Jonquil
- April—Daisy
- May—Lilly of the Valley
- June—Honeysuckle
- July—Larkspur
- August—Gladiolus
- September—Morning Glory
- October—Marigold
- November—Chrysanthemum
- December—Poinsettia (If she has a dog, try Holly instead. Poinsettia is poisonous to dogs.)
2). If you want to give your girl flowers for no reason at all, skip the dozen red roses. (Get over it. The dozen is so last decade.) Buy her one single red rose, instead. Whisper to her that this single rose represents the one and only lady in your life. Or, say nothing at all. Regardless, this gesture speaks volumes.
3). If you consider a red rose unoriginal, and want to give your girl a colored rose, keep in mind the color of a rose can have a very different meaning from what you intend. To ensure your feelings are not misconstrued, check out the meanings of each rose color. After all, you do not want to get stuck giving a yellow rose to a hottie you have potential with, or a red rose to a bootie call. Believe us, she will know the difference.
- Red Rose—I love you.
- Pink Rose—Happiness
- Lilac Rose—Love at first sight
- Yellow Rose—Friendship
- Orange Rose—Desire
- White rose—Truth and innocence
- Black—You weirdo! Why would you want to get her a black rose?
Some say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but flowers are much less expensive. If you know a little Flower 101, your feelings will come across much better. But, if you are not one to dwell on meanings, simply buy your girl her favorite flowers. If your lady has mentioned to you that she loves Gerber daisies, throw the rules out the window. Just go ahead and buy her Gerber daisies.
